What Is The Distinction Dog Programme?
Our Distinction Dog programme consists of both placement within third level education and facilitating workshops. Our workshops are scheduled throughout the academic year in collaboration with staff enabling us to co-create canine assisted supports to meet the community need.
Our scheduled visits range from canine assisted support sessions during times of transition, homesickness and to ease pressure during exam times, through to blocks of individual student support co-created through access staff members and our team.
We have found canine assistance to be transformative in supporting students who have additional needs in accessing movement breaks, emotional regulation, social engagement and accessing their curriculum with ease via learning timetables through practical aspects of maneuvering between classes in-turn building confidence in their abilities to access learning. Our programme also assists with transitional periods for incoming pupils, international students, open days, throughout exam times and returning after academic breaks.
